Klopp Threatens To Quit Germany Job Over Family Privacy
Jurgen Klopp has warned that he could walk away from his role as Germany head coach if the media fails to respect his family’s privacy.
The former Liverpool manager made the comments during his first press conference after being appointed Germany’s new head coach on a four-year contract.
Klopp, who replaced Julian Nagelsmann following Germany’s disappointing World Cup exit, said he loves the job but would not hesitate to leave if his family is affected by unwanted media attention.
As reported by BBC Sport on Friday, Klopp was quoted as saying, “If you behave badly and don’t leave my family in peace then I’ll be gone, I’ll just turn away.
“I love this job but I am always ready to call it quits if need be.”
The 59-year-old returns to management for the first time since leaving Liverpool in 2024 after admitting he had “run out of energy” following a successful nine-year spell at Anfield.
Klopp said taking charge of Germany represents the biggest challenge and the highest point of his coaching career.
“Jurgen Klopp is not going to have any ‘career’ after the national team,” he said. “This is the pinnacle, the absolutely high point of my footballing career as coach. I will give everything I have got.”
The German coach is expected to lead the national team through the 2030 World Cup, with his first match coming against the Netherlands in a Nations League fixture on 24 September.
Klopp’s appointment has generated huge excitement in Germany, but he faces the challenge of rebuilding confidence in a national team that has struggled in recent major tournaments.
