3 To Die By Hanging For Killing Delta Monarch

 

A Delta State High Court, sitting in Ibusa, Oshimili, has sentenced to death, three persons for killing a traditional ruler of Ubulu-Uku, Obi Edward Ofulue III.

The convicts were said to have conspired with one another to kidnap, rob and murder the monarch on January 6, 2016.

‘Those sentenced to death were Suleiman Musa, Garba Abubakar and Haruna, who were the 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants respectively.

The 1st defendant Jemilu Ahmed was, however, sentenced to five years and 14 years imprisonment.
The 1st defendant was sentenced without option of fine in respect of two count-charge against him with both to run concurrently.

Trial judge, Justice M. Omovie in the judgment, said the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt the 10 count-charge against the defendants.

The judge said the 2nd, 3rd and 4th defendants were sentenced to death by handing.

Reacting to the judgment, J. Odogun said: “On January 6, 2016, the defendants conspired among one another to kidnap, to rob and consequently murdered one Obi Edward Akaeze Ofulue 111, who was the king of Ubulu-Uku.

“It was established that defendants conspired among one another, robbed at gun point and kidnapped one Ugboh on January 6, 2016.
