Farotimi In Court Over Defamation Case
Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi appeared at the Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Tuesday for his trial on criminal defamation charges brought by Chief Afe Babalola SAN.
Farotimi, who was remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre following his arraignment last week, arrived at the court at approximately 9:55 a.m., escorted by correctional officials. He was dressed in a black T-shirt and blue jeans.
The charges stem from allegations made in Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System, in which he accused Babalola of corrupting judges of the Supreme Court.
Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, deemed portions of the 104-page book defamatory and initiated legal proceedings against the author. The trial continues.
