Supreme Court Dismisses Suit Challenging EFCC Legality

The Supreme Court on Friday, dismissed the suit of the 13 states challenging the constitutionality of the law that established the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The seven-man panel of justices led by Justice Uwani-Abba-Aji, in a unanimous decision, dismissed the suit for lacking in merit.

Some states led by Kogi State had challenged the legality of the EFCC arguing that the anti-graft agency was not properly set up and that it does not have the power to investigate state governors.

Although some of the states later pull out of the court case, the apex court in its ruling Friday dismissed the suit in it entirety.
