Gbajabiamila Backs 10km Lagos Marathon
A former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has thrown his weight behind the forthcoming 2024 ‘LERE FUNATHON’, a twin event that includes a 10km marathon and funfair which will be held on August 17, 2024.
The marathon is expected to feature at least 300 amateur runners, with entry categories ranging from children to adults, while the funfair will serve as the entertaining climax to wrap up the event.
Gbajabiamila, who has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the welfare, growth and development of the Surulere community, gave his endorsement during a courtesy visit of the Local Organising Committee members led by its chairman Sola Lawson.
“I am thrilled to support ‘LERE FUNATHON, an initiative that aligns with my values and priorities of a healthy lifestyle, community engagement and socio-cultural unity,” Gbajabiamila said in a statement released on Wednesday by the event’s Director of Communications, Phil Odiakose.
“It is therefore without hesitation that I recommend this event to Surulere stakeholders and urge all members of the Surulere community to participate and lend their support to this unique family event,” he added.
Chairman of the LOC, Sola Lawson, disclosed that the proceeds from the event will be donated to charity.
The 10km road race will start from the Teslim Balogun Stadium and will end at the “The Stable” – Union Bank Sports and Entertainment Centre, in Surulere.
It will be followed by a post-race funfair and entertainment including a musical concert, traditional dances, food, drinks and special recognition awards to distinguished individual and corporate “citizens” of Surulere.
