Olubadan’s Nomination: Ibadan Elders Broker Peace Between Ladoja, Other Kingmakers
As a last minute effort to break the deadlock between Otun Olubadan, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja and other kingmakers over nomination of the new Olubadan, prominent Ibadan indigenes have brokered peace between the two feuding parties.
The meeting of the elders, it was gathered, which was convened by a cleric, Primate Ola Makinde of Methodist Church, was attended by some members of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Ibadan Elders Forum and Mogajis.
Recall that Otun Olubadan who is a former Governor of Oyo State and other nine members of Olubadan in Council are slugging it out over the nomination of the new Olubadan.
The cold war is responsible for the inability of the Olubadan in Council to nominate the next Olubadan.
Oba Owolabi Olakulehin who is the possible Olubadan designate is indisposed and kingmakers are bent on seeing him physically before his nomination.
A meeting which High Chief Ladoja convened the penultimate week was boycotted by other members of the council meaning it was only Senator Ladoja that was in the meeting.
A meeting had earlier been held on Monday by the kingmakers who boycotted the Mapo Hall meeting.
Nine members of Olubadan in Council including Ekerin Olubadan, Hamidu Ajibade, Otun Balogun, Tajudeen Ajibola, Osi Olubadan, Eddy Oyewole, Ashipa Olubadan, Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Ekarun Olubadan, Adebayo Akande; Osi Balogun, Lateef Adebimpe and others did not attend the meeting.
It was gathered that the reconciliation meeting which was held on Wednesday in the residence of Chief Bode Amao was a success.
After the meeting, it was concluded that the Olubadan in Council should convene another meeting which will hold on or before Friday.
According to the source who said he wasn’t detailed to speak with newsmen said, “This is Ibadan. We know how we settle our differences. It’s a family issue and we shall solve it the family way.
“At the Wednesday’s meeting, the elders appealed to both sides to think of the consequences of their actions on the ever peaceful Ibadan ascendancy system and it is not good that the orderly arrangements of the chieftaincy system.”
“We are hoping that very soon another meeting will be convened by Otun Olubadan with all the members of the council present.”
“The elders pleaded with High Chief Ladoja to allow peace to reign and not be offended for the boycott of the meeting he tried to convene.”
