Defence Minister Warns Sponsors Of Violence Against Truncating Democracy

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has warned any group or individual sponsoring violence in an attempt to truncate the nation’s democracy to desist from such unpatriotic acts or risk the full weight of the law.

Matawalle also charged law enforcement agencies to deal decisively with those instigating violence in the country.

According to him, the long arm of the law would catch anyone who perpetrates violence to disrupt the peace and tranquillity of the nation.

The Minister, who spoke in an interview at the weekend in response to the high rate of fake news, rumour mongering, propagation of hate speeches and promotion of violence in the country, urged security agencies to ensure total compliance with the provisions of the constitution of the country.

Matawalle said the current government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, meant well for all Nigerians and was making every effort to make the county better for all, hence should be supported by all.

He said the President should be respected by the citizens to give his government the courage to do what is required to make the county great.

Matawalle emphasised that the Ministry for Defence would not condone any act capable of disrupting the peace in the country.
