Onitiri Tackles Ezekwesili For Condemning Demolition Of Alaba Market Buildings
A Public affairs commentator, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, has berated former Minister of Education, Mrs. Obi Ezekwesili, over her outburst against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for demolishing dilapidated structures at Alaba International Market, Lagos.
Onitiri, Saturday, said the former minister was unfair to the governor by her outburst, saying the governor did not need any further evidence before the demolition of the structures in the market.
“With evidence of the buildings having open cracks and sinking foundations, the governor has no fault in demolishing the structures in question.
“The outburst of Ezekwesili was very unfair, unrealistic and smacks of tribal sentiments. This is the time for good governance. We should eschew bitterness, pettiness and tribal sentiments,” he said.
Onitiri explained that as an expert in the built industry, such buildings with open signs of unfitness and uninhabitable conditions should be pulled down before it collapses on innocent residents transacting business who are unaware of the looming disaster.
“Moreover, markets are commercial buildings with heavy human traffic, which should be strong and well fit for habitation and business transactions. We don’t pray for any building to collapse in Lagos metropolis.
“As a prominent Lagosian, we support our indefatigable governor for pulling down the cracked and sinking buildings in our markets to avoid calamity,” he added.
He pointed out that the sacred duty of any serious government is to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
“We strongly advise our former minister not to play politics with human lives,” Onitiri said.
