16 Political Parties Declares Support For LG Elections In Osun
fewer than sixteen of the eighteen registered political parties in Osun State have declared their support for the October 15, 2022 local government elections in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Friday, the chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Osun State chapter, Wale Adebayo of Allied Peoples Party APP said the election is inevitable by virtue of the importance of local government administration to grassroots development.
Flanked by the chairmen of all the sixteen parties, Adebayo disclosed that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) had earlier invited all the registered political parties to parley on August 12 where they were informed of the preparedness of the commission to conduct the elections.
Recall that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) on August 15, 2022 announced that local government elections will hold in the state on October 15, 2022.
The IPAC chairman noted that the timeline for the activities leading to the elections was received by all the political parties adding that the political parties under the aegis of IPAC met and rub minds together and came to the conclusion that since the local government and the Local Council Development areas are nearest to the people, they supported the move to bring good governance to the grassroots.
IPAC however enjoined OSIEC to ensure that the exercise is done in conformity with the law adding that they should also ensure free, fair, transparent and credible elections in Osun State.
They appealed to the people of Osun State to exercise their civic duty in an enviable atmosphere that the state is known.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) OSU chapter had kicked against the conduct of the elections and declared it as illegal and an attempt to waste scarce public fund.
