COVID-19: You Can’t Reopen Varsity Now- NASU Tells FUNAAB Mgt

The Non-Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, has said that it will rebuff any circular issued by any university authorities directing its members to resume duties amid escalating coronavirus pandemic.

NASU’s threat came on the heels of the circular issued by Registrar of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Dr. Bola Adekola, directing all the staff of the university to resume duties.

Already, NASU, through its General Secretary, Comrade Peters Adeyemi, has sent a petition to the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, faulting the directive.

Adeyemi in the letter argued that “The national secretariat of NASU is of the opinion that this directive of the authorities of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta conflicts with the Federal Government’s lockdown easing guidelines in respect of academic institutions and social engagement which state thus: ‘all schools to remain closed till further evaluation.’

“We, therefore, call on the Presidential Task Force to prevail on the authorities of FUNAAB to respect the content of the Federal Government’s lockdown easing guidelines and stop them from implementing the Registrar’s circular asking all staff to resume for duty.”

He said that the circular flouts the Federal Government’s lockdown easing guideline.

The National Body of NASU has also directed the local chapter of the association not to honour any circular from the School management unless those issued by the federal government and the Ministry of Education.
