Court Remands Man Over Rape Of Minor In Osun
An Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Monday remanded one Fadire Michael, (29) over alleged raped of a 14-year-old girl.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breach of peace and rape.
Abdullahi said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner that may likely cause the breach of peace by having carnal knowledge of the minor (name withheld).
He added that the defendant unlawfully raped the minor by having carnal knowledge of her without her consent.
According to him, the offence contravened sections 358 and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun,  2002.
The Defence Counsel,  Martins  Awe, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term with the promise that his client would not jump bail, but would provide substantial sureties and stand his case.
Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji, did not grant the bail of the defendant but asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
Olatunji therefore, ordered for the remand of the defendant in Nigeria Correctional Centre, pending the legal advice as he adjourned until Feb 20, for mention.
