Guild Of Editors Election: Electoral Committee Disqualifies Four Aspirants
The Election Committee of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, met Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the Editors’ House , Ikeja to screen nominations for election into the Executive Council and the Standing Committee, holding during the Biennial Convention scheduled for May 03- 05 2019 in Lagos.
In carrying out its assignment, the Committee followed strictly, the provisions of the amended 2016 NGE Constitution and the Election Guidelines.
At the end of the screening exercise, the following decisions were arrived at:
1. PRESIDENTIAL CONTESTANTS:
a. Mrs. Funke Egbemode- Cleared to contest.
b.Mr. Steve Osuji- Disqualified by Article 3 of the Constitution.
2. DEPUTY PRESIDENT
a. Umar Saidu Tudunwada-Cleared to contest.
b.Chooks Ogbonnaya Oko-Cleared to contest.
3.VICE PRESIDENT(North)
a.Hajia Sani-Cleared to contest.
b.Sanusi Jibrin-Cleared to contest.
4.VICE PRESIDENT(East)
a.Samuel Egbala-Cleared to contest.
b.Dom o. Isute-Cleared to contest.
5.VICE PRESIDENT(West)
Mustapha Isa-Cleared to contest.
6.GENERAL SECRETARY
a. Mary Atolagbe-Cleared to contest.
b. Iyobossa Uwugiaren-Disqualified by Article 3 of the Constitution.
7.ASSISTANT GENERAL SECRETARY
a. Austeen Elewedalu-Cleared to contest.
b.Juliet Chinda Njiowhor-Cleared to contest.
c. Rose Moses-Disqualified by Article 3 of the Constitution.
8.TREASURER
Victoria Ibanga-Cleared to contest
9.SOCIAL/PUBLICITY SECRETARY
a.Ken Ugbechie-Cleared to contest.
b.Mohammed Suleiman-Disqualified for choosing a member of the Election Committee as his sponsor.

The Committe requests all contestants: both those cleared to contest and those yet-to- be cleared to appear before it at 10am on Friday, May 03, 2019, at the Airport Hotel, Lagos, venue of the Biennial Convention, with original copies of their letters of appointment as editors for verification.
