US Agency Endorses LUTH Cancer Centre

 

United State Trade and Development Agency have commended Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, NSIA and Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH for putting in place comprehensive cancer treatment centre in Lagos.

Speaking during a courtesy visit, Acting Director of the Agency, Thomas Hardy said that the quality of equipment and infrastructure at the centre gladding his heart.

“Looking around the centre, am very pleased with the structure and equipment in particular. They are of a quality standard that meets up with a globally acceptable standard. I’m very confident that the centre will impact positively on the quality of care provide to Nigerians.

“There was a time in this country that the whole functioning radiotherapy machine was not up to three. But to see LUTH alone having three high standard radiotherapy machines gives me joy.”

Hardy, however, pleaded that they will do everything with their reach to ensure that good initiative of such continues in the hospital.

While conducting the delegate round the centre, the Chief Medical Director, LUTH, Prof. Chris Bode said the aim was to establish a world-class cancer treatment Centre to reduce medical tourism.

“This centre is not just a pride of Nigeria but the whole West Africa. We will guarantee optimal service to everybody who comes here and our service will be cheaper than anything you can get anywhere in Nigeria or other parts of the world.

“It is a group of investor that invest $11 million to establish this centre, the way forward is for us to render good service consistently for the next 10 years and beyond so that investor will make their money back. Bode said the project came with a written 10 years maintenance services and the equipment, for now, will work at least for 10 years trouble free and when it breaks, it would be speedily fixed by virtue of maintenance agreement.
