Niger East Senatorial: INEC Directs REC To Replace David Umaru With Sani Musa
The headquarters of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed its Niger State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to replace the name of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Niger East Senatorial candidate with that of Alhaji Mohammed Sani Musa.
He is to replace Senator David Umaru.
The directive which was contained in a letter dated 15th February, 2019 and signed by Mrs. Rose Oriaram-Anthony, the Secretary of the Commission and addressed to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, the Commission said the decision was in pursuant to a court order.
The letter which was made available to the press titled, “Forwarding of Commission’s Decision Pursuat to Order of Court in suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/140/2018 – Mohmmed Sani Musa V. APC& 2 Others”, directed the REC to update the record and reflect it on the final list.
The letter reads, “the Commission pursuant to the order of court in the above matter has direcred that the name of David Umaru earlier published as the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Niger East Senatorial District been removed and replaced with the name of the plaintiff, Mohammed Sani Musa pursuant to the order of the court.
“You are requested to update your record with respect to the above in view of the final lisr of cabdidates earlier forwarded to you please”.
It will be recalled that a Federal High Court, in Abuja had ordered that Senator David Umaru be replaced by Mohammed Sani Musa as the All Progressives Congress candidate for Niger East Senatorial District.
