Osun APC Primary: Members Allege Imposition
Concerned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Local Governments of Osun state have expressed concern over the imminent consequence of the imposition of Hon Rasheed Olalekan Afolabi as the party’s flag bearer for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency during the 2019 National Assembly election.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola and a former Secretary to the State Government, Engr. Sola Akinwumi were alleged to had on Saturday declared Afolabi as the APC’s House of Representatives candidate for the Federal Constituency.
One of the stalwarts of the party in Ikirun, Bello Adeleke said APC would lose the House of representative election if the party insist on fielding Afolabi, because he lack what it takes to win election of such magnitude.
According to Adeleke, APC leadership in the state got it wrong by choosing Afolabi against loyal and committed party members, an action capable of destabilizing the party in the area.
Another APC member in Ikirun, Mr Rasak Marindoti stated that Afolabi has for long distance himself from his community as the lawmaker representing Ifelodun Constituency at the Osun State House of Assembly.
Marindoti accused the party leadership of discouraging loyal and committed members of the party, adding that the APC might lose the election with Afolabi as its candidate.
It was gathered that Afolabi was named the party’s flag bearer for the House of Representatives seat at the Government House, Osogbo in the presence of other aspirants that included Alhaji Moshood Oluawo (MUSADEK), Architect Lekan Usman, Dr Michael Olugbile, Bello Adegboyega Basheer, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Adelani Baderinwa, among others.
It was further leant that despite the protest by some former councilors and other supporters of MUSADEK against the choice of Afolabi, the decision was not reversed.
