Minna-Bida Road Now Open For Traffic
Less than 24 hours ultimatum given by Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, traffic has since been restored on Minna-Bida Road following the completion of the repairs on the failed section of the road washed away by the heavy down pour on Friday.
The governor who inspected the repairs work done on the washed section of the bridge on Sunday evening, expressed satisfaction and commended the urgency attached to the repairs of the road by engineers in the state Ministry of Works.
The restoration of vehicular movement on the road was in compliance with the directive of Governor Sani Bello who gave matching orders to the state Ministry of Works to fix the failed section within 24 hours.
The contractor handling the renovation of the road in concert with Engineers from the Ministry and security agencies swung into action and by 9:50pm on Saturday the road was opened to motorists.
The Minna-Bida Road was cut off on Friday following a natural disaster occasioned by heavy downpour which washed away a section of the road at Kilometres 16 near Kakapangi village.
The governor had on Friday directed the Ministry of Works to fix the failed section of the road within 24 hours, in view of the strategic role of the road, as the link between the South West and North West and North Central states.
Aside from the natural disaster, the road has been over stretched due to high volume of heavy duty and articulated vehicles plying the road as a result of diversion of vehicles from Mokwa-Tegina-Brinni Gwari-Kaduna road
