Parliament Charges Women To Participate In Active Politics
A socio-political group under the aegis of the Osun Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Women Parliament, Osun State Chapter has urged women to take their rightful place in politics to avoid marginalization.
The group who declared their support for the candidate of PDP in the forthcoming governorship election, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke enjoined the leadership of the party at all levels to open widows that will encourage women to participate in politics by giving them 35 percent privilege in all political contest as well as in governance.
The group expressed its readiness to support the party and lead its flag-bearer to victory in the guber poll as well as in all elections in the state and the country at large.
Addressing newsmen in Osogbo at PDP secretariat during the weekend, the group State Coordinator, Mrs Remilekun Fakokunde said the group decided to support Adeleke based on his antecedents and track-record to take the party to victory comes September 22 governorship poll.
She hinted that the group has mapped out strategic measure to begin door-to-door electioneering campaign against political apathy, thus motivating people specially women to show interest in politics for national integration, growth and development.
According to her, “The endorsement of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party’s PDP by every member of our group remains an indication to victory.
”We have seen the light in his candidature to take us to victory as we are convinced by his track-record and pedigree to dislodge the incumbent government and its party- the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“As a socio-political group that is concerned about the welfare of humanity particularly women, we are ready to go out to serve, mobilize, canvass and ensure that a large sizeable number of women in the state collect their PVCs and vote for PDP not only in the forthcoming governorship election but in all elections.
“There is no doubt in the fact that our group has recorded a huge success in its efforts to educate and enlighten women to play cardinal role on how the society is being governed.
“It is time for women to wake up from their slumber and be much more alive to their responsibilities at supporting the women’s needs as we are united to support one another by appropriately harnessing our potentials to bring to government women of virtues in all political seats”, she added.
Corroborating similar gesture, the Deputy State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Eniola Omotosho said no effort would be spared by members of the group to ensure the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate comes September 22 guber poll.
Omotosho said the group has begun tireless work to penetrate every household in the state for the suppoprt of the Party and its candidate, assuring that “PDP will have a landslide victory in the election”.
While congratulating the state and national leadership of the PDP on the successful completion of the party’s governorship primary in the state, Omotosho described the peaceful conduct of the party’s primary as unprecedented in the annals of politics in Osun.
She added, “PDP has laid a solid foundation and outstanding template for good leadership in politics not only in Osun but in the country as the success of its primary in the state remains a testimony to what democracy stands for.
“We are convinced and we have a strong belief that our party will emerge going by the quality of our flag-bearer and the popular support we have received from the people in the state”, she stressed.
