2019: Dankwambo Holds Secret Meeting With Obasanjo

The Governor of Gombe state and presidential aspirant, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo on Tuesday visited former president Olusegun Obasanjo and held secret meeting with him at his Presidential Library home in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Dankwambo declared that he was ready to step down his ambition for a better candidate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if such exist.

He emphatically declared that the country requires a leader that would move the citizens forward with 100 per cent attention as one single indivisible entity that has a future.

While addressing the PDP supporters at a welcome party organised for him and members of his delegation, shortly after paying a courtesy visit on former president Olusegun Obasanjo at his Presidential Library home.

Dankwambo and his delegation, who arrived Abeokuta at around 1: 10pm had gone into a meeting with the former president which lasted over an hour.

He however, declined comment after emerging from the meeting with the former president but directed journalists to the welcome party where PDP loyalists were already waiting for him.

Source closed to the venue of the meeting said the meeting was not unconnected with his presidential ambition come year 2019.

But addressing the PDP supporters, Dankwambo berated the change mantra of the President Mohammed Buhari led federal government.

He said Nigerians were in a hurry for a change in 2015 but they never bothered to ask what manner of change the person was bringing.

The Gombe state governor also lamented what he described as high rate of poverty, maternal mortality and insecurity, which he said had pervaded the entire country.

“In 2015, they came with rhetoric’s of change. Nigerians never bothered to ask for the type of change they were bringing. We were in hurry and never asked how he wanted to change Nigeria from negative to positive.

“I don’t have to bother you that today, poverty is increasing, maternal mortality is increasing, insurgency is being witnessed not only in the North East, but all over the country.”

Stressing that he has developed an economic blueprint which he hopes to implement if elected as president, Dankwambo also said that he has the prerequisite knowledge to administer the affairs of the country.

“I have been a governor for seven years now and I am the only governor that came back the second time in the region. We have provided leadership before and we are still going to do more of it. We have developed economic blueprint, we will share it. We are still looking at the event. I will provide the leadership Nigerians want”,

Making veil reference to the issues of restructuring the country, Dankwambo promised to address issues of marginalisation which he said is threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria.

“Why do we have problems with fuel subsidy? Is it the computation and the addendum?  How do we restructure the cost elements of the pricing? What are the cost elements? Are they still recognised?  These are the issues that we will delve into holistically. Even including the issues of our existence. Really today, do we believe in ourselves? Do we believe that some components of this country is short-changed or over-changed?”

“These are issues that must be discussed and be agreed to by all of us because except that all of us feel a sense of belonging in this entity we called Nigeria. Why do we give and cannot give our best. So, we must believe in what we are giving before we can give our best to this our country”.

“So, the important thing to tell you today is that I will provide very good leadership. It is a family meeting that I am doing today. I have offered myself to our great party: our party has trained a lot of leaders in the 16 to 18 years of our existence as a party and that is why a lot of us are going round to say we are calling”.
