Health Minister Inspects Passengers Screening At Lagos Airport
Health Minister Professor Isaac Adewole has visited the Port Health stand of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport to inspect the screening of passengers arriving Nigeria.
The Minister said the purpose of his visit was to either confirm or debunk the rumour that passengers arriving Nigeria were not screened at their points of entry.
Monitoring passengers through a screening machine as they arrived the country by Egypt Air, the Minister confirmed that passengers were actually screened , using thermal scanners, however, “we have shifted temporarily to hand held devices to assure the public that we are screening.
He said also said that his visit was also to help the government enhance awareness and identify missing gabs in order to bridge them.
Speaking on the notion that hand held monitoring devices were not as effective as the monitoring cameras, he said that though the two devices were made to carry out the same function however, the Camera is modern, in line with International standard.
He called for synergy between the staff of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Port Health Service to ensure effective disease surveillance at all ports of entry in the country.
The Minister noted that the two devices are being used presently at the Lagos International Airport.
