42 Inmates Get Freedom As Plateau Decongests Prisons
Twenty-two inmates from six of the eight prisons formations in Plateau State have regained their freedom in the last one week as the state Acting Chief Judge, Justice Yakubu Dakwak, released them in an attempt to decongest prisons in the state.
The Acting Chief Judge, who led the State Criminal Justice Administration Committee to prisons formations between January 1 and 8, also granted bail to 20 inmates with a charge on all of them to be of good conduct.
In a statement in Jos, Tuesday, by the Public Relations Officer of the State Command of the Nigerian Prisons Service, ASP Luka Ayedoo, the visit is aimed at “finding out the jails’ conditions and to look into the cases of awaiting trial persons with a view to decongest the prisons.”
Among the formations visited by Justice Dakwak and his team are those in Jos, Pankshin, Langtang, Wase, Shendam and Lukushi Farm Centre.
