UNILAG Management Disowns 13 Students In Prison

The University of Lagos has dissociated the institution from the 13 students remanded in  Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Lagos, saying they are not their students.

The ivory tower in a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Mr. Adebule Toyin posited that, ”These “students comprise of rusticated students and some students from an institution in Ogun State.

“Let us emphasise here that the rusticated students are requested to apply for re-admission after serving their punishment. Until re-absorption, they are not considered bona fide students of the University.

It would be recalled that a faction of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) gave a 24-hour ultimatum to prison ifficials to release the 13 students detained at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons.

The President of NANS, Chinonso Obasi, who spoke with journalists in Abuja condemned the court’s ruling, which remanded them in prison custody.

He threatened to relocate NANS headquarters to the prisons if the students were not released.
