Nigerian football legend, Nwankwo Kanu, has announced burial plans of his mother, late Susan Nwannediya Kanu Iheme.
The funeral is slated for December 2 and 3, 2016.
According to the head of the Nwankwo Kanu Foundation, Pastor Onyebuchi Agba, who doubles as the Chairman of the Burial Committee, plans are underway to give the deceased a befitting burial, owing to the instrumental role she played in the footballer’s rise to stardom.
Agba said: “You know Mama played an important role in Kanu’s (Nwankwo) life.
“She believed in him and often called him ‘Onyinyechi’, which means the ‘Gift of God’, before success came.
“Hence a grand burial and a befitting one for that matter is what Nwankwo Kanu wants for his mother.”
Kanu’s mother died on September 7, 2016.
She was 82.
She would be buried in her village, Ammanagwu, Arochukwu in Imo State.
While a service of songs and wake keep is slated for December 2, the interment will hold on December 3 at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria in Amnnagwu-Arochukwu.
