Lalong calls for respect, protection for journalists

The Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, has called for respect and protection for journalists as they perform their legitimate duties of reporting.
Governor Lalong stated this in a message to journalists on the occasion of the Safety of Journalists, a day which is by a Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Dan Manjang, the governor noted that recognizing the relevance of freedom of expression and free media in building inclusive knowledge, societies and democracies and fostering intercultural dialogue, peace and good governance is needed in the promotion of peaceful and egalitarian society.
The Governor acknowledged the specific risk faced by women journalists in the exercise of their work and underlining in this context the importance of taking a gender-sensitive approach when considering measure to address the state of journalists.
Lalong thumbed up the UN for proclaiming November 2 of every year the International Day to End Impunity for Crime Against Journalists.
