How Senate rejected Buhari’s $29b loan request

The Senate on Tuesday rejected the request by President Muhammadu Buhari for approval to source $29.9 billion loan from the World Bank.
The request, which was introduced for consideration by the Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, and seconded by Senator Emmanuel Bwacha at plenary, was rejected by majority of the senators in a voice vote.
The voice voting was conducted two times by the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and the request was turned down both times.
Meanwhile, the Senate on Tuesday formally received a request from President Buhari for approval to appoint non-career ambassadors.
The letter from the President conveying the request was read by Ndume.
Saraki, announced its acceptance for consideration despite dissent from majority of the senators.
