9 Die, 5 Injure In Ogun Auto Crash
No fewer than nine people were confirmed dead, while five others were critically injured in an accident which occurred along the Lagos – Ibadan expressway on Tuesday.
The accident, which happened at the Aseese village in the Obafemi – Owode local government area of Ogun state involved an IVECO tipper truck marked (LAGOS) AAA 193 XP and a Mercedes Benz Macopolo passengers’ bus marked: (LAGOS) SMK867 XG belonging to one of the popular transport company, “The Young”.
Our Correspondent gathered that the auto crash which occurred around 5: 30am, caused a total blockage of the entire expressway, thereby preventing other motorists from gaining access inbound and outbound Lagos.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun Command, Clement Oladele who confirmed the auto crash attributed it to over speeding and dangerous driving.
But the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ogun state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi in his own account said the Macoppolo luxurious passengers’ bus coming from Enugu in Eastern part of Nigeria, rammed into the truck from the rear.
Akinbiyi explained that the IVECO tipper truck had developed a mechanical fault while on transit thereby making it stationary, but the driver failed to display the safety indicator to signal a repair process.
But driver of the luxurious bus which was on top speed, coupled with the poor visibility of the time, rammed into it, thereby causing the fatal crash.
The FRSC Sector Commander also said that the critically injured victims were taken to a private hospital in Ibafo, while corpses of those that lost their lives were also deposited at the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu
