7 Die In Ogun Multiple Accidents
At least seven persons, including two children, were on Saturday confirmed dead, while 10 others were critically injured when a cement laden truck rammed over a passengers’ bus in multiple accidents which occurred on Saturday along the Abeokuta – Sango – Oshodi expressway.
The auto crash, which occurred around 11: 35a.m at the old Sango-Ota toll gate axis involved an ash-coloured truck with Dangote Cement inscription without identifiable registration plate number, one yellow – coloured Volkswagen passengers’ bus with registration number (LAGOS) LSR 128 XP and a white coloured Sienna bus marked (LAGIS) APP 122 CD.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for Ogun state, Clement Oladele, who confirmed the multiple accident to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital, attributed the cause of the crash to “speeding and mechanical deficiency suspected to be brake failure”.
Oladele further explained that irate mob, who were protesting the multiple crash have set ablaze, the Dangote truck suspected to have caused the fatal crash.
The FRSC boss, however, explained that the Injured victims have been rescued and taken to the Ota General Hospital for medical attention, while corpses of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of Ifo General Hospital in the state.
While commiserating with the families of the victims of the crash, the FRSC Sector Commander also warned motorists, particularly those of the articulated vehicles to drive cautiously whenever using that section of the corridor which he said has claimed over 40 lives in recent time.
Oladele also cautioned passersby to desist from turning themselves into mobs and resorting to self-help by willfully destroying public properties or accident vehicles, “irrespective of the level of provocations”, stressing that “there are standard ways of handling and reporting grievances to appropriate law enforcement agencies”.
