5 Inmates Electrocuted, 10 Injured In Ikoyi Correctional Centre

There was pandemonium yesterday at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre as five inmates lost their lives, while 10 others left with varying degree of injuries are lying in critical conditions in the hospital after they were electrocuted by a naked electric cable at the facility.

Our correspondent that the survivors battling for their lives in an undisclosed hospital from incident that occurred in the facility formerly known as Ikoyi Medium Prisons.

It was gathered that the alarm raised by the victims alerted the management of the correctional center, before they commenced rescue operation.

In a swift reacting to the incident, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola through the Press Officer, Ministry of Interior, Jane Osuji said, “The attention of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has been drawn to an electrocution incidence at the Ikoyi Medium Security Prison in Lagos.

“The minister has directed a quick investigation into the root cause and the ministry will in the next few hours share a comprehensive update on the incidence.

“While we commiserate with the victims of the incidence, the minister has ordered immediate medical attention for those affected.”
