2Baba’s Wife, Natasha, Becomes Edo Assembly Minority Leader
Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has emerged as the minority leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was announced as the minority leader during Monday’s plenary following a reshuffling of the Assembly’s principal leadership positions.
Her emergence came under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress after she defected from the Peoples Democratic Party in May 2026.
A statement issued by Osawaru’s Media and Strategic Communications Directorate and posted on her Facebook page on Monday read, “In a landmark development during Monday morning’s plenary, the Edo State House of Assembly announced a comprehensive reshuffle of its principal leadership, officially naming the distinguished representative of Egor Constituency, Hon. Natasha Osawaru, as the new Minority Leader of the House.
”The plenary session, held this morning at the Assembly Complex in Benin City, saw lawmakers reorganise key leadership seats following strategic alignments across party caucuses. Hon. Osawaru’s elevation under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reflects not only her formidable standing within the legislative chamber, but also the deep confidence reposed in her by colleagues and constituents alike.”
The statement said Osawaru had previously served as Deputy Majority Leader and had, during her time in the Assembly, focused on grassroots development, parliamentary debate, and youth and women empowerment.
Speaking after the plenary, Osawaru expressed gratitude to the Assembly leadership, her colleagues and the people of Egor.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust. Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise.
“As Minority Leader, my commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of our great party, the NDC, and the prosperity of the good people of Egor remains absolute,” she said.
Osawaru’s emergence places her in a key opposition leadership position in the Edo State House of Assembly.
