22-year-old Steals 5-year-old Baby For N400,000

 

One Chiamaka Ukeje, female, 22-year-old from Umuduru Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, of Imo state, alongside three others were paraded Thursday, by the Imo police command, for stealing and selling one Chinagorom Ndukwe, five year old baby, to the tune of four hundred thousand naira.

Ukeje, was among other 61 suspects in different offences, paraded at the Imo state, Police command.

According to Imo state Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Ezike, “The child has been recovered and reunited with the family.” Narrating the breakthrough by the police, Ezike said: “Operatives of the scorpion Squad acting on a tipoff arrested a four man child trafficking syndicate who conspired and stole. “One Chinagorom Ndukwe, female, aged, 5 years old at Umuduru Isiala Mbano and sold the baby to one Joy Blessing Edum of Rumwara Obiakpo Port Harcourt, Rivers state, who bought the child at the sum of 350,000. The suspects are all resident at Rivers state and have made useful statements.”

The commissioner of Police revealed that, “they all met themselves at the Federal Prisons Port Harcourt, Rivers State.”

Ukeje said: “I did not steal the child but I runaway with the child because my Uncle and my Father were fighting.

“So, madam Ruth, asked me to sell the child to her for 400,000, and I gave the child to her. But the money has not been given to me. She promised to give the money later.”

Explaining her involvement, Mrs. Ruth Marvis Solomon, female, 41-years-old, from Umuehie Anara in Isiala Mbano local government area, Imo state, said: “I was not the one who bought the child. Chiamaka asked me to show her who will buy the child. They never promised to give any share.

Chiamaka is the mother of the child.” Mrs. Joy Blessing Jack Edum, female, 45-year-old, from Abua Odum LGA, in Rivers state, who was said to have allegedly bought the 5-year-old baby, said it was her first time. Adding that, “My husband is not aware of what I am doing because he will not be in support.

To be sincere, it is because; I don’t have a child that I decided to buy this baby. I promised to pay them N350, 000.” One Sandra Ezuka, female, 26-years-old from Ozoro in Isoko ,LGA, Delta State, who claimed to be a friend to Chiamaka, said that she was not involved in the waterfront arrangement that led to the stealing and selling of the five year old baby.
