21-Year-Old Driver In Police Custody For Raping College Student In Ekiti

A 21-year-old commercial driver, Tope Ojolo, is currently in police custody in Ekiti for raping a female student of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti.

He was said to have committed the crime on September 17 at about 8.00 pm while conveying the victim, who was coming back from a hospital where she had gone to receive treatment for malaria.

Ojolo, it was gathered, suddenly veered into the bush and forcefully had carnal knowledge of the victim who was the only passenger inside the mini bus at the time of the incident.

The development sparked violent protest by the students of the state-owned institution, who stormed the streets of the ancient town attacking commercial drivers and vandalizing the school property in the process which forced the authorities to close down the school indefinitely.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Friday, the State Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, explained that Ojolo turned himself to the palace of the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado, who subsequently handed him over to the Police.

He said, “Yes, the suspect is with us; the matter is under investigation and by the time we round off our investigation, the suspect will be charged to court.”
