2019 Election: Adeola Not Foreigner In Ogun, Kinsmen Tell Amosun
Following the allegation that the Senator representing Lagos West and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola is a foreigner, his kinsmen under the aegis of Isaga descendants Union in Ogun State have cleared the air on his disputed origin, declaring that , he is an indigene of Ogun State. Rising from a meeting held Monday in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, members of the Union faulted the claim that the senator was not from Ogun State, insisting that, he hails from Isaga which has 32 communities across Ogun State and neighbouring Lagos.
They declared that Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, remains their son and eminently qualified to contest for the governorship of the Gateway State in 2019.
This came barely a week after the state Governor Ibikunle Amosun vowed not to allow a “foreigner” to succeed him apparently in reference to Adeola’s gubernatorial ambition.
But speaking on behalf of the Isaga people, former Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Chief Lawrence Osayemi, said Adeola is a bonafide son with origin in Yewa axis of Ogun State.
He declared that the Isaga communities have unanimously adopted and endorsed the senator as the consensus candidate for the governorship.
Osayemi, who is the Balogun of Isaga and chairman of the occasion, said it was high time a Yewa indigene took over the governorship of the state.
He said, “Senator Adeola’s origin in Yewa is never in doubt, even though his detractors and adversaries call him various names ranging from ‘Tekobo’ through ‘Atohunrinwa’ to ‘foreigner,’ but we know he is a bonafide Isaga son, whose great grandfather, Olege migrated from Isaga-Orile, a Yewa town in the present Abeokuta North Local Government Area to Ago Isaga, Pahayi, after the Dahomean invasion of Isaga-Orile on March 15, 1862.
“The invasion left the town devastated and there were family descendants, which led to the founding of so many Isaga settlements across Yewa, Abeokuta, Lagos and the Republic of Benin.”
“We had recognised him as one of our sons in Isaga since when he was serving at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Senator Adeola has been sufficiently equipped for the office, having served in all facets of governance relevant to the position,” he added. Prominent among those in attendance were the Olu of Iju Isaga, Oba Abaas Ajibode, Adele Oba of Isaga Orile, Chief Yekini Odu, Baale of Isaga Owode, Chief Akinleye Adams, Professor Oyekunle Akinosi, and Venerable Sola Ladipo-Ajayi.
On his part, Senator Adeola representing Lagos West in the National Assembly, appreciated his people for their support and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him.
He also stated that he has great respect for Governor Amosun and would never disrespect his office and person.
He said, “I heard that some people said, I was once confused and in search of my root; that is not true. I have never claimed another root other than my ancestral home.
“I want to say I hold the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in very high esteem and I will never disrespect him as a governor of my own state.”
The lawmaker urged his people to mobilise themselves and participate in voter registration ahead of 2019, saying he has made up his mind to contest for governorship in the state.
