2.2 Million Mosquito Nets For Distribution in Osun – NMEP

No fewer than four million residents of Osun State will benefit from the free distribution of two million, two hundred thousand Mosquito nets by the Catholic Relief Service in conjunction with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) in their desperate move to reduce the menace of malaria disease in the state.
The Programme Manager of Catholic Relief Service in the state, Dr. Adetayo Olusola disclosed Monday at a workshop in Osogbo that 8.8 million dollars have been earmarked for the procurement of mosquito  insecticidal nets (LLIN) for the use of the people of the state.
The target, according to him, would ensure that a net will be made available to every two residents of the state to curb the spread of the deadly disease.
Dr. Olusola further disclosed that the insecticidal nets would be distributed across the 30 local government areas of the state while 14,000 personnel that would distribute the nets are on ground to carry out the assignment.
The Programme Catholic Relief Service Manager, who also hinted that the National malaria elimination programme body would do its best to see that people in the state live a malaria-free society, urged the media to help mobilize the populace for the exercise.
The Director, who lamented the attitude of people over full utilization of the net, charged them to sleep inside the net to protect them from mosquito bites that spread the disease.

According to him, “Sleeping inside the net ensures sound and undisturbed sleep while it is easier and cheaper to hang the net than to treat malaria.”

Dr. Olusola also advise those who might benefit from the net to ensure that they spread it in a airy environment devoid of direct sunlight before use, adding that they can wash it in cold water with mild soap when dirty.
