1 Killed In Ondo Cult Clash
A 24 year old man; Peter Sunday alleged to be a cultist in Ondo , the headquarters of Ondo West Local government area of Ondo State, has been killed in a renewed clash between two rival cult groups in City.
The deceased, also known “Marvin”, according to family sources has just completed his one year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Edo state.
Sunday, was said to be a member of “Afee Confraternity”, before he was shot dead at about 8:pm on Monday at Okesegun Street in the community.
It was learnt that his killing was a reappraisal attack of a recent cult clash that occurred in the community.
Investigation revealed that there has been rivalry between Afee and Eiye confraternities in the town before the incident.
A source disclosed that the late Sunday was sleeping in his father’s house located at Ebido Street in the town when he was lured out by someone who claimed to be his friend.
The deceased was said to have been surrounded by rival cult group which residents suspected to be Eiye confraternity.
He was said to have been shot at a close range and fell down in the pool of his blood.
The deceased family members who wore sad look, were seen gathered in groups crying and wailing while some were noticed discussing the development in hushed voices, when journalists visited the area.
Also a detachment of police officers from the ant-crime department of the Yaba divisional police station in the town police were seen evacuating the body of the deceased to the mortuary.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the station, Mrs. Regina Mogbojuri, was said to have gone out of the station for surveillance activities when reporters got to the station.
But a senior police officer ,who do not want his name mentioned, confirmed the incident and disclosed that about fourteen people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
He explained that the report concerning the incident has been sent to the appropriate quarters at the police command headquarters in Akure, the capital of Ondo state.
Similarly, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph said both uniformed and plain cloth policemen have been deployed to the town to forestall possible reprisal attack from some groups of people who are said to be planning to avenge the death of the victim.
Joseph said 12 persons have been arrested while the police were on the trail of other suspects.
