1 Dies, Other Injured In Ondo Autocrash

The driver of a J5 Bus was on Tuesday burnt beyond recognition when the bus rammed into a stationery Dangote trailer along ever busy Owo Oba-Akoko road in Ondo State.

Our correspondent gathered that another person sustained injuries, while the bus service conductor escaped unhurt.

The injured person had been taken to Owo Medical Centre for treatment.

As a result, there was heavy traffic gridlock along road when the bus immediately caught fire.

The inferno led to a very serious gridlock as many vehicles were unable to pass.

A witness, Mr. Owajalaye Halidu, the local chairman of Oba Akoko National Union of Transport Workers NURTW disclosed that the J5 was in a top speed when it swerved to the side of the stationery vehicle, rammed into it and caught fire.

He pointed out that the cause of the accident was an overtaking which made the J5 bus to have head-on collision with Dangote trailer.

According to Owo Unit Commander, Mr. Jimoh Basiru ‘’The driver of The J5 bus burnt beyond recognition while one was injured and the conductor of the bus came out unhurt. Both Owo and Ikare unit did the rescue operation.’’

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Ikare Unit immediately reported at the scene of the incident to rescue lives and cleared the highways for easy movement of other road users.

The Unit Commander, Mr. Yinka Akande said his men performed creditably to make the road free for others.

According to him, the driver of J5 sustained a various degree of injuries and had been rushed to hospital.

Meanwhile, the FRSC Ikare Unit has taken the United Nations Global Road Safety week to Alif Central Mosque, Ikare Akoko and Christ Baptist Church Ugbe Akoko to create awareness on road safety.
